Civil and Structural Engineering at Babcock

The possibilities are many and varied. You might be helping to modernise facilities and infrastructure, or designing cutting-edge structures for the nuclear industry. We do a lot of work for the MoD, which alone offers a whole world of varied opportunities. You might even work with the Royal Navy to adapt the UK’s dockyard services to meet the demands of a modern naval fleet. Whatever you work on, you can be sure you’ll be making a real difference to everyday life in the UK.

What you'll need

  • 2:2 BEng (Hons) degree is vital. And because the programme is accredited by the IMechE, IET, RINA, ICE and IOP, our preference is that your degree is also accredited by the relevant institution too
  • To be able to satisfy the MoD’s security requirements, you may also need to complete a medical assessment

Where you'll be based

See the list below to find out more about the areas of our business that are offering places on our Civil and Structural Engineering programme for Autumn 2021. No matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.

Cavendish Nuclear is the UK’s leading nuclear services company, delivering complex projects across the nuclear lifecycle. Our work includes supporting delivery of new build nuclear power plants, extending the working-life of existing nuclear plants and safely decommissioning legacy sites. We’re looking for graduates with a wide range of qualities, including high technical skills, good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn and adapt to new circumstances.

You could be based in a number of locations, so you will need to be ready and willing to move throughout your programme. You’ll probably call Warrington, Bristol, Leicester or Newbury home, but you could also work from client sites (including nuclear power stations, or Sellafield in Cumbria and Dounreay in Scotland).

Our business in Plymouth supports the UK Royal Navy in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and sustaining critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Depending on your programme your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other Nuclear or Marine sector locations.
