About the programme

The maintenance of the Royal Navy’s ships and submarines is fundamental to its ability to defend our nation and its interests. On this programme, you will learn how the Facilities Engineering Design team directly supports the maintenance of these critical assets, developing a deep understanding of design and maintenance processes and equipment.

Design Engineering at Babcock

Working alongside experienced design engineers as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use state-of-the-art CAD tools to produce drawings and specifications for new and modified platform maintenance facilities and equipment. You’ll use the Facilities Engineering VR suite and smart screens to present your designs to the supply chain and manufacturing teams, learning and developing as you go.

What you'll need

  • 2:2 BEng (Hons) degree or a 2:2 BSc (Hons) degree in a relevant Engineering subject such as: Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • To be able to satisfy the MoD’s security requirements (you may also need to complete a medical assessment)

See below to find out more about the areas of our business that are offering places on our Design Engineering programme for 2021. We ask our graduates to be flexible as there is the potential to undertake placements in other locations during their programme.

Our business in Plymouth supports the UK Royal Navy in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and sustaining critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Depending on your programme your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other Nuclear sector locations.
