About the programme

Our Devonport dockyard is vast and mission-critical. Making management of safety, health, environment and fire across both its nuclear and conventional areas vital. Over the course of two years, you will spend time working with a number of specialist departments that span these different areas, using the full breadth of your specialist knowledge to make a real difference.

Health and Safety at Babcock

Working as part of the multi-disciplinary Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEF) Department, you’ll help ensure that our employees have the right working environment, knowledge, procedures and organisational support to do their jobs and comply with the law, local procedures and best practice. You will undertake a wide variety of challenging and exciting projects, such as risk assessment, incident investigation, sharing and learning from events, assessment of employee exposure, project planning and investigating best available techniques – a breadth of experience that few other employers can provide.

What you'll need

  • 2:2 BSc OR BEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a Health and Safety-related subject or Environmental Science subject with a good understanding of Chemistry and Mathematics
  • To be able to satisfy the MoD’s security requirements (you may need to complete a medical assessment)

What you'll get

When you’re part of the team at Babcock, we think it’s only right that you’re properly rewarded for the contribution you make and the hard work you put in. That’s why, in addition to a highly competitive salary, you can look forward to generous pension and employee share schemes, and a whole host of other flexible benefits. These include things like access to our healthcare cash plan, Wellbeing Centre and discounts on everything from gym membership and travel to retail, dining and entertainment. You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach and volunteering activities, which our graduates find incredibly rewarding in all sorts of other ways.

Your career development

We are now partnering with an award-winning training provider to deliver a cutting-edge, technology-focused graduate development programme that can be tailored to your individual needs and career aspirations.

We’ll match your passions to your skills, provide you with professional mentoring and help you build a rewarding career as a versatile Health and Safety professional. And as you work towards Chartered status, we’ll give you all the experience you need in areas like Health and Safety (IOSH), Occupational Hygiene (BOHS), and Environment (IEMA).

Next year, we are also looking to introduce a fast-track graduate programme for outstanding performers and those with the potential to become future leaders within the business.
