About the programme

We help our clients to manage their radioactive and hazardous waste properly, reducing the potential for adverse effects on the surrounding environment. It’s vital work that involves removing significant hazards for plant and animal life, and protecting human health. Over the course of two years, your work here will have a real impact on making our world safer now – and for generations to come. You’ll see how, by applying strategic thinking to multidisciplinary projects at the outset, we’re able to deliver the most innovative solutions to waste prevention and treatment, rather than waste disposal being considered a problem to be managed at the end.

Waste Management and Decommissioning at Babcock

You’ll undertake a number of placements, working as a key team member on each of them. You might be looking for opportunities to organise and streamline resources by applying a logical approach to process management. You could be assessing the options for waste treatment and disposal from nuclear decommissioning projects, getting involved in a range of stakeholders discussions about how best to optimise the solutions or develop mitigations for implementation. Or you could be looking at environmental enhancement projects to improve the areas around client sites. The possibilities are many and varied. Whatever you work on, you can be sure you’ll be making a real difference.

What you'll need

  • 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry or a related subject
  • To be able to satisfy the MoD’s security requirements (you may need to complete a medical assessment)

What you'll get

When you’re part of the team at Babcock, we think it’s only right that you’re properly rewarded for the contribution you make and the hard work you put in. That’s why, in addition to a highly competitive salary, you can look forward to generous pension and employee share schemes, and a whole host of other flexible benefits. These include things like access to our healthcare cash plan, Wellbeing Centre and discounts on everything from gym membership and travel to retail, dining and entertainment. You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach and volunteering activities, which our graduates find incredibly rewarding in all sorts of other ways.

Your career development

As part of this programme, we’ll match your passions to your skills to help you build a rewarding career as a versatile Waste Management and Decommissioning professional.
